About Alycia
Alycia has been living in France since December 1998. She now speaks both French & English. Between September 2000-2004 Alycia was a pupil at the College Argentor, Champagne Mouton. Her favourite lesson was FRENCH!
Alycia's Favourite colour is PURPLE!
Alycia's favourite animal is a dolphin she supports the Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society Alycia has walked for dolphins and arranged a cake sale at school in aid of dolphins. Her adopted dolphin's name is Splash. Her greatest dream is to actually see a real life dolphin in its natural habitat.
Alycia used to be a member of Church Aston Brownies. Monday evenings were always great fun. Unfortunately this is the only one of her interests that could not be continued at the moment because the nearest local Scout de France unit is too far away. However she has many happy memories of Brownies, and continues to live her life the Brownie spirit.
In England Alycia was a member of the Newport Town Band, and had enjoyed playing at many venues. Alycia has been able to continue to learn the cornet in France and has close links with the Chasseneuil Harmonie & Banda. The notes may be the same but the sounds are quite different from traditional brass band music in England. Alycia has been able to continue most of her hobbies and interests from England. Saturday has a very tight schedule. Saturday mornings are taken up with tennis. At Easter Alycia took part in her first tennis tournament.
Saturday a busy afternoon, the first part taken up with cornet piston practice at Chasseneuil. The middle part of the afternoon with ecole de Tir at Saint Eloi, Exideuil-sur-Vienne where Alycia has just started to shoot air pistol compétition. Then back to Chasseneuil for solfège. Now on Friday nights Alycia joins the Chasseneuil Banda and Harmonie for répétition.
June 1999
Alycia had a trip to Paris in June with school, she spent four days and three nights and saw many of the sights. She is now in CM2, her last year at Primaire. Her understanding of the French language is very good, she has a Charentaise accent. Her favourite lesson at school is French. Alycia hopes to run an enterprise next year of selling home-made jams. Her class have just begun to study English, she is a major contributor taking a small group of the class to help. Later on this month, Alycia’s class has another trip to Paris planned the, whole school is busy selling calenders to finance this trip.
Year 2000
In September Alycia started at the college Argentor and is progressing well.
In celebration of Mardi Gras 2000 Alycia's class used their théâtre theme as their disguises. Alycia is Madam Adams, her copine Laetitia as Monseuir Adams. Alycia performed Les Avare (The Misers) as part of the Des Jeunes Theatres 2000 at Saint Yrieix.
Year 2001
Alycia is now in cinquième after a rather shaky start following the long holiday she is making progress. She competed again for the college in a cross country run, against other local schools and came second. She takes a very keen interest in music, playing the djembe and singing in the school choir. At the end of the term a spectacle is being performed for the school, Alycia will be playing the recorder and jambeau and also singing. She says that she is the music teacher's “petite choux-choux”
Just before the October half term holiday a junior poetry competition was organised for children in the canton of Champagne Mouton. This was judged by professional poets from all over France. Alycia and her class all entered as it was part of the French course work, they were also told that if they did not submit a poem then their course mark would be dramatically low. No more thought was given, until the Friday of the holiday, Alycia received a telephone call from the Maire, to say that could she and her family come to the Mairie on Sunday to receive her prize. How proud we were when we realised that Alycia had won first prize. Her French teacher is delighted that an English girl won!
Earlier in the year Alycia progressed to the Regional Championships in 10 meter air pistol.
28th June 2003:
Fête de la musique
Karine and I decided to sing "My heart will go on" by Celine Dion at the St. Laurent de Ceris music festival. We were surprised to be asked for an encore, we sang"Ensemble" by Jean - Jaques Goldman.
We enjoyed it so much that we are thinking of doing it again next year.
26th June 2003:
In Information De Decouverte we were given a project "theatre" we had to write a play around a painting that we were given to work off. Our play was about a ship wreck. Our characters were pop stars and famous people, who were sailing on a cruise liner for the "N R J(pronounced energy) music Awards" We enacted it in front of the parents in June. We enjoyed ourselves because we were proud of doing it!
This year I am in 3eme the highest class in the school, I still remember being in 6eme the lowest class!
Saturday 13th December 2003
On Saturday night we the " CHIEUSES" ( this is the name of our group which comprises of eight girls "the anoyers"), had a sleep over at one of our friends house to Fête Laureen's Birthday. We decided for Laureen's birthday present to each gave about 7 euros towards a jumper and some small things. Laureen cried when she opened it, she hadn't suspected anything! We went to sleep at 6.00am and woke up at 9.49am to go home at 10.00am. That afternoon I had to have a sleep and I went to bed early too.
I am still playing music with Michel MATHE!
We invited Michel and his wife and her sister's family to a barbeque, we ate a lovely meal made by Mum. When the desert came Karine (his niece, my best friend in France) and I decided to play a joke on him. We went up stairs and found a "cafard"(cockroach), while we served the desert we slipped it into his. By this time everyone knew except Michel. When he had nearly eaten it all, he noticed and said " Qu'est ce que c'est?" He suspected it was us. Afterwards he said that if he couldn't take a joke he couldn't play a trick on others ! He added that he would take his revenge on us, but he still hasn't got us! We are still wondering what it is going to be!
